- Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, 31, posted about dealing with tons of swelling in her hands and feet since giving birth to her third child yesterday.
- She’s also experiencing cramping that makes it feel like she’s still in labor.
- These postpartum experiences are common for women recovering from giving birth.
Yesterday, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi became a mom of three when she gave birth to her son, Angelo James LaValle. Today, she’s swollen, in pain, and wondering why no one warned her that postpartum life could be this uncomfortable after baby #3.
It all started around noon yesterday when Snooki shared a photo of her swollen left foot on her Instagram stories (in between adorable snapshots and videos of the newest, tiniest member of her family). Across the pic, she wrote: “My feet are swollen, I’m wearing a diaper, my son just peed and sh*t on me twice & my sciatica is acting up. Hello postpartum.” Then, after a few more videos of baby Angelo, Snooki turned the camera on herself again. This time she gave fans a peep at her swollen hand behind the words: “My hand is shrek. #swollen.”

Given that Snooki just gave birth, uh, yesterday, her body is obviously still recovering. And though these postpartum symptoms don’t seem to be particularly surprising to her, the Jersey Shore alum is definitely not thrilled about them.
The good news, though? Nicole won’t be feeling this way for very long. After giving birth, a woman’s body can experience a laundry list of uncomfortable aches, secretions, and yes, swelling as it gets used to, you know, not carrying a human inside it. So, until Snooki is fully recovered, her best option to get the swelling down is tokeep her legs and feet elevated as much as possible, according to the Office On Women’s Health.
If only propping her legs would relieve Snooki of the other new-mom aches she’s dealing with. The star also posted about postpartum cramping—something she didn’t see coming. “No one warned me about the third pregnancy postpartum cramping,” she wrote. “Like am I still in active labor? Sh*t!” (oof!).

Though she’s uncomfortable, Snooki might be glad to know cramping and contractions after giving birth are super-common. And if she’s breastfeeding Angelo, her chances of having a throbbing tummy just went up even more, per the Office On Women’s Health. These pangs, called afterbirth pains or afterpains, usually subside after a few days. However, they do tend to hurt most on the second and third day post-delivery while the uterus starts to shrink back to its original size, according to Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
It’s not unusual that Snooki’s never had to deal with these cramps before. Postpartum stomach pain tends to be more noticeable with the birth of each baby (most women don’t experience it until they’ve delivered their second or third babies).
Here’s hoping Snooki has a less painful day tomorrow.
