Prince Harry And Meghan Markle To Receive The Oprah Treatment

Even after resigning from their Royal duties at the close of last year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have continued to be prime candidates for tabloid fodder. Despite the turmoil Markle experienced at the hands of the British press, it seems the rest of the world can’t get enough of the royal couple. When an image of Markle resting her head in Harry’s lap as she cradled her stomach alerted us all to her pregnancy, it was a shock that the Internet didn’t break entirely.

Given this exciting new chapter, news that the couple will be sitting down with Oprah Winfrey for a prime time television special set to air on CBS on March 7 has caused quite a stir. Not least for the hope that it might see them spill the beans on any royal rifts, but because it also marks the first lengthy television interview since their engagement, and the first since they exited their royal duties.

According to a statement from CBS, “Winfrey will speak with Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, in a wide-ranging interview, covering everything from tipping into life as a Royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work to how she is handling life under intense public pressure.” The statement continued, “Later, the two are joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family.”

It might seem like quite the celebrity pairing, but Markle and Winfrey have developed quite the close relationship over the years. Winfrey attended the couple’s wedding at Windsor Castle in May 2018 and the three now happen to be neighbours in Montecito, California. It might have all the trappings of a scintillating Netflix tell-all doco, but really it’s just some neighbours having a yarn.

As for Harry and Meghan, the pair signed content creation deals with Netflix and Spotify as part of their effort to make a living outside of the Royal Family. In 2019, it was announced that Prince Harry would team up with Oprah for an Apple TV+ series concerning mental health, a subject Harry has been vocal about throughout his lifetime in the spotlight.

The segment will air on CBS next Sunday.
