Man shot through the tip of his PENIS is left with a lop-sided erection as urologist warns similar injuries are dished out as a drugs-related ‘punishment’ akin to knee-capping
- The 28-year-old, of New York, went to hospital after suffering the bizarre injury
- Doctors who treated him did not explain the circumstances behind the shooting
- Hospital medics noticed there was an entry and exit hole in the head of his penis
- The team found the bullet was lodged in his left thigh, after conducting an X-ray
A man shot through the tip of his penis was left with a lop-sided erection in what is thought to be the first case of its kind ever recorded.
The 28-year-old went to hospital after suffering the bizarre gunshot wound. Doctors did not explain the circumstances behind the shooting – but a leading urologist has said he has seen a similar injury dished out as a drugs-related ‘punishment’ before.
Medics treated the bleeding from the head of his penis and found an entry and exit hole, suggesting the bullet passed straight through.
The team in New York also noted a wound on his thigh, which an X-ray later revealed was the final resting point of the small bullet.
Doctors who treated the unidentified man at the Lincoln Hospital, in the Bronx, published the tale in a medical case report journal.
They said they believe it is the first recorded case of a penile gunshot wound to the left distal corpus cavernosum in medical literature.

The corpus cavernosum is sponge-like tissue which stores the blood during an erection. There are two that run down the shaft of the penis.
Dr Richard Viney, an urologist in Birmingham who didn’t treat the patient, described the structures as being like ‘frankfurter sausages’.
He said the bullet was effectively a ‘head shot’ through the glans, and that it would be expected that the bullet ‘would have missed the corpora’.
Damage to either corpora can affect the sexual ability of patients – the man had an ‘impaired’ left sided erection.
The medics did not explain what this meant – but Dr Viney said it is likely that the man’s penis ‘deviated to the left’.
Doctors only stumbled across the injury by an ‘artificial erection test’, puncturing his corpora and inflating them with saline.
Dr Viney said: ‘The lopsided erection was simply because the right corpora was full but the left corpora wasn’t filling, due to leakage, causing the deviation to the left.’
‘Less than one per cent of civilian trauma involves the penis,’ the doctors wrote in the journal Urology Case Reports.
‘A tertiary hospital in a large metropolitan area cited an average incidence of only three cases of gunshot wounds involving the penis per year.’
Dr Viney, of the Bladder Clinic, told MailOnline he has seen a couple of similar cases. He said: ‘One was a drugs related “punishment”. Tit-for-tat kind of stuff.
‘The other was another gang member who thought it sensible to tuck his loaded pistol in his waist band without the safety on.’
Doctors told how the African American man had mild swelling on his dorsal penile shaft – the underside of his member.
He was also bleeding from both the right and left side of his glans – the rounded tip, or head, of the penis.
It is unclear when he was shot and if he was whisked to hospital straight away. Nor did doctors say why he was shot in the penis.
Doctors also noticed a wound on his left thigh, which an X-ray revealed was the resting place of the bullet he was shot with.
Gruesome pictures published in the journal show how the medics ‘probed’ the two wounds in his glans with forceps to reveal they were connected.
The doctors wrote: ‘The bullet likely traveled from the right side to the left side of the glans penis before lodging in the left medial thigh.’
Following repair of the wound, the man had an ‘improved left-sided erection with no penile curvature. And, six weeks after, he reported no sexual dysfunction.
DOCTORS CUT A METAL NUT OFF MAN’S ‘STRANGULATED’ PENIS AFTER HE SQUEEZED IT ON
A man needed to have a metal nut removed from his penis after it got stuck when he put it on his member for sexual pleasure.
The unidentified 34-year-old, from Hong Kong, went to his nearest A&E department two days after the hex nut became lodged.
Doctors tried to slide it off using jelly and giving the man painkillers – but it proved unsuccessful. They did not reveal how big the nut was.
Instead, the team had to resort to using a diamond disc cutter to cut open the metal and relieve him of his ‘penile strangulation’.
Medics at the United Christian Hospital’s surgery department told the unusual tale in the journal Urology Case Reports.
Gruesome pictures showed the doctors using the disc cutter on his penis. They revealed he suffered two ‘superficial’ cuts during the procedure.
