Julia Bradbury shares dental health advice for all the family: ‘It really has helped us’

Julia Bradbury, 48, has opened up about her personal health struggles in the past, including her experience of endometriosis – a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places. Now, as part of a new campaign which encourages parents to ensure their kids are brushing their teeth twice a day, the presenter has offered a life-changing tip which makes family life at home run much smoother.

I’m a mum of three and live by the toothbrush, and die by the toothbrush

Julia has three children, a son named Zephyrus, 7, and twin girls Ianthe and Zena, 4.

Speaking to Express.co.uk she said: “I’m a mum of three and live by the toothbrush, and die by the toothbrush.

“I struggle with my kids to get them to brush their teeth in the morning and to find free time to do it. It’s chaos in the morning.”

But after meeting with a dentist, Julia was given some revolutionary time-saving advice.

When it comes to brushing your teeth in the morning, Julia said: “Don’t wait until after breakfast.

“First thing we do when they wake up is to brush their teeth – protect their teeth with fluoride. It really has helped us.”

While the campaign is aimed as getting children to brush their teeth twice a day, Julia stressed the importance of adult oral health too.

She said: “Naturally this should extend to adults. Teaching your children, you start to think about your own teeth.

“They’ve recently used plaque disclosing tablets, that show you how much plaque is on your teeth – something I did at school.

“Suddenly, teeth become a big deal in your life again, teeth become quite big on the agenda.”

The campaign being run by Simplyhealth is running from now until the end of August.

All children need to do is fill in their brushing charts every morning and night for four weeks.

In a recent Simplyhealth survey, almost two thirds of UK parents said getting their children to brush for two minutes, twice a day, was a challenge.

Julia added: “Taking care of your teeth is as important as taking care of your physical and mental health, and it’s important to teach your children that.”

Julia Bradbury is an ambassador for Simplyhealth’s Big Family Brush-Up campaign, raising awareness of the importance of a proper tooth brushing routine.
