After Strictly viewers noticed a slight lump under the professional dancer’s armpit, Shirley was inundated with concerned messages urging her to get checked out. Prompted by this Shirley did in fact go to see her GP, who was not concerned so much about the suspected lump, but about Shirley’s hormone levels. She previously revealed: “The doctor said I have the highest testosterone levels she’s ever seen in a woman, and testosterone can wreak havoc on the female organs.”
Now, awaiting results from a biopsy that was taken from the lump under her arm, as well as further explanation concerning the hormone levels, Shirley revealed on Good Morning Britain this morning that she is “trying not to dwell”.
The star who has previously admitted that at times she tends to worry and feel “a bit dark and lonely,” now said that she has accepted that “it will be what it will be.
“It’s been the last two weeks, it’s been like a whirlwind,” Shirley continued.
“Two weeks from now I should know where I am.”
The star, who underwent multiple medical tests at King’s College, London, said that the doctor will not speculate what the cause of the problem is, but instead tell Shirley: “’We need to deal with this. Let’s deal with the hormones and then see what else is there’.”
The ballroom champion went on to explain that in her experience the NHS have been really quick on getting results back to her, so hopes that results from the most recent tests should be with her in the next week to 10 days.
Throughout the ordeal, Shirley has been keeping her fans updated via her Instagram. In the latest video Shirley said: “With a warm heart and sincere gratitude, I want to thank each and every one of them for caring enough to send the messages, for taking up their precious time to be concerned about my health.”
What is a biopsy?
The NHS explains that a biopsy is a medical procedure that involves taking a small sample of body tissue so it can be examined under a microscope.
