How to make the tea

The base of the Masala Chai is typically black tea.

Most strong, rich, dark black teas will work well in Masala Chai as it gives a robustness enough to hold up to all the flavourful spices involved

Assam, Darjeeling is often used in India because they are grown there.

To make at home you can use typical brands such as Lipton Yellow Label or PG Tips.

Spices involved include fresh ginger, cardamon pods, cinnamon, cloves, peppercorns and star anise.

Lightly crush the whole spices before tossing into a pot of water with the black tea.

Bring one cup of water with the spices and loose tea, just to a boil- then turn off the heat and let steep for 10 minutes and add milk once cooled down.

The health drink can be consumed as many times as you like to help lower cholesterol and boost longevity.
