An adorable dog who was left paralysed after putting on too much weight has finally made a full recovery thanks to an animal rescue charity.
Six-year-old Button Moon was found paralysed and hiding under a car in Canterbury in September last year.
Thankfully, he was taken in by animal charity Flori’s Friends Rescue after he was found to have no microchip and no owners came forward to claim him.
A CT scan soon revealed he had a herniated disc, and Button Moon was given urgent spinal surgery.
After making a full recovery, he found a new home in January.
But sadly, things did not quite work out for the fluffy pooch.
Charity founder Natalia George, 29, explained: ‘Button Moon needed to stay slim and exercise and sadly has gotten fat and immobile.
‘His spine has now collapsed, and they’ve handed him back to rescue.’
The adorable Chihuahua was scheduled for an emergency appointment at the Royal Veterinary College in August so that he could undergo urgent surgery by a spinal specialist.
With just days to go, cash-strapped Flori’s Friends Rescue set up a fundraiser which raised a whopping £7,310 after being inundated with donations from hundreds of supporters.
Button Moon underwent his surgery at the end of August and is now recovering well.
Natalia added: ‘It’s really, really great. We managed to raise £7,500, which will cover everything post-surgery.
‘He’s going to need physio twice a day and hydrotherapy once a week.
‘The surgery went so well – he’s like a rocket now. He’s not paralysed anymore. He’s running around, or rather he’s trying to run around.
‘He’s on crate rest for four weeks, but his mobility’s already 10 million times better. He’s unrecognisable.’
Natalia said Button Moon has already lost a kilo since the surgery and is looking better than ever.
He will spend the next four weeks recovering at a foster home in Sleaford but will be available for adoption in about four to five weeks.
