Daniel Wright, a former Biggest Loser contestant, died on Sunday. He was 30 and had battled leukemia for more than two years.
Last week, his wife Rebecca Wright shared on Facebook that her husband’s condition was declining. She posted that her husband was coughing up blood. “Man alive this is insane & alone seems impossible but with GOD all things are possible🙌🏼🙌🏼 THANK YOU for your prayers & well wish I adore you all!!!!” she wrote.
Wright first appeared on season seven of the weight-loss competition show for a special couples edition. He was a student and competed with his best friend, David Lee. Wright returned for season eight in 2009 and ended up meeting his wife Rebecca Wright on the show. Together, they lost nearly 250 pounds, though struggled to keep the weight off afterward, per the New York Times.
Wright was diagnosed with leukemia in October 2017. He underwent chemotherapy and multiple blood transfusions. Daniel was able to return to work and begin maintenance chemotherapy treatment. However, the cancer returned in December 2018. According to updates posted on his GoFundMe page, he was hospitalized and suffered from fever, infection, low blood counts, and chemo side effects.
His fellow Biggest Loser contestants are remembering him with heartfelt messages on social media.
Danny Cahill, who won season eight of The Biggest Loser, shared: “Daniel’s light has always been one of grace, encouragement, wisdom, love and honor throughout the time I have known him. And I can honestly say that because of him I am a better man.”
Courtney Crozier Respess, another former contestant, posted on Facebook: “I am so so heartbroken to hear about Daniel Wright this morning. He has fought SO HARD during his battle with cancer & more. This man is one of the kindest people I have ever met & is a true difference maker in this world!”
