The Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte is Returning Earlier Than Ever This Year

It might be summer, it might be hot, and we might be permanently covered in sweat, but that doesn’t mean that we haven’t been dreaming of all things pumpkin spice since last fall. For those of us who jones for that intoxicating blend of spices, sweetness, and coffee, PSL season lasts all year in our hearts, but Starbucks just announced that the real Pumpkin Spice Latte is going to be available on August 27th, and we couldn’t be happier.

This summer has been a doozy, temperature and otherwise. Starbucks is throwing us a bone by bringing back the PSL the earlier than it’s ever been offered before. While the cynic in us wonders at the logic of chugging a steaming hot pumpkin drink when it’s 90 degrees out, the other part of us can’t resist ordering that ish on ice so we can have the best of both seasons. Think about it — late August is basically the brunch of seasons, the special in-between spot between summer and fall, where we get to have our seasonal cake and eat (or drink) it too.

Starbucks seems to know this. They’re bridging the gap between summer and PSL season in more ways than just offering the drink at their stores earlier than ever; this summer also saw the release of new PSL products like Pumpkin Spice Latte creamer, K-Cup pods, ground coffee, instant coffee, and cookie straws, as well as ready-to-drink PSLs for those who don’t live near one of the chain’s outposts – or for those of us who literally can’t make it through the three seasons when Starbucks *doesn’t* serve their signature autumnal elixir.

Does it really make sense to have a PSL in August? Maybe not. Will that stop us from immediately indulging in our years-long obsession even while we’re slathered in SPF 50 and heading to the beach? Absolutely not.
