If you’re squeamish, look away now.

This is the gruesome moment a brave podiatrist carves a huge hole into a man’s big toe in order to remove an ingrown nail.

The stomach-churning procedure was performed in December 2018 by Marion Yau at London’s Harley Street Foot and Nail Clinic.

Ms Yau – known as Miss Foot Fixer – said the patient’s problem was an extreme example of the painful, but common, condition.

‘This is a very bad case of ingrown toenail as the piece of nail left inside his toe was very big,’ she said.

‘Usually the ingrown toenails are not as big and the infection usually does not leave such a big whole in the foot.

‘The wound was cleaned and a dressing in applied, I also recommend the patient wears wider shoes to prevent the nail from digging in.’

The footage, uploaded to YouTube, begins with a clear view of the offending toe, which shows the yellowed nail under the surface of the skin.

In order to access it, Ms Yau cuts away at the surrounding tissue with a sharp instrument.

Soon, she is able to extract it, but only after clearing the site of puss, which can be seen oozing from the wound – suggesting there’s an infection.

Got it: Soon, the podiatrist is able to extract the offending nail from beneath the man’s skin

By the end of the procedure the man is left with a gaping hole on his big toe, which is santised to avoid a secondary infection.

It’s then bandaged up before the mini-surgery is successfully completed.

As the NHS note, people usually get an ingrown toenail on their big toe, but they can develop on any of the feet’s ten digits.
