The Proper Way to Weigh yourself

The Good News About Weight Loss Plateaus

Tips on how to manage your diet when the scale won’t budge

Reshaping your body, losing inches does take some determination to stay the course. If you have tried several different diets, done crash-dieting or even tried weight-loss wonder pills, your body’s metabolism needs time to heal. Anytime you restrict calories, your body assumes that you may not eat again, and it slows down your metabolism. If you have been extreme in your dieting, you may have severely damaged the glands that regulate your metabolism.

It can happen to anyone. One man who lost over 100 pound on the Shaklee Cinch plan actually had a plateau that lasted for six months, before the pounds and inches started coming off again! Most people won’t experience a plateau that stubborn. Here are some tips to help you through plateau time.

Key point: muscle weighs more than fat! Especially if you are using Cinch, you are building muscle. So you may see a weight gain, or slower loss, but your clothes fit better!

Look for other ways to measure your progress:

Inches/Body measurements: dress size, waist, hips, neck, arms, fitting into favorite clothes

Performance –more endurance during exercise, doing them at a higher level, jumping higher, walking longer, running faster, playing a sport better

Mood and Attitude – rate energy level, rate attitude and outlook, track how often you feel very sleepy during the day, rate your confidence level

Health – blood pressure, cholesterol level, blood sugar level, food cravings, appetite for healthy foods, quality of sleep

Intangibles – how you look, compliments you receive, self-confidence, how others respond to you.

No matter what – stay on track! Plateaus are not fun, but they are a good sign that your body is changing, healing and rebuilding itself. A plateau means that your body is adjusting to becoming the new you! You are forming life habits that will keep you at a healthy weight. Hang around friends who will encourage you. Avoid trigger foods. Be patient. The plateau will come to an end, and the weight will start falling off. You will always be glad you “fought back” by outlasting the plateau.

We’re Getting Cinched!

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Last Fall (2007), I was getting really bugged about my weight. Like many people who struggle with weight issues, I wanted it off, but I had difficulty truly committing to my long term goal. Maybe I was “afraid” that I wouldn’t keep it off. Maybe I didn’t think that I had time to exercise. Maybe I was just plain lazy. We have 5 kids (ages 6-21) and so there was always an excuse to cook something, have extra snacks and treats…you know the drill. Mom and Dad often eat what the kids eat. And we don’t want to “waste” food, so we made sure there were not any leftovers.

Did I mention that I hate to exercise?

Fortuneately, we had been using Shaklee products for years. They had helped to keep us healthy. I truly believe that the protein shakes, and snack bars and vitamins kept us from gaining even more weight. In other words, we were indulging in all kinds of goodies. We would have been much heavier if it weren’t for Shaklee.

The Shaklee Corporation introduced Cinch in August 2006. I had read the hundreds of stories. I tried it and found that I lost weight on my belly (from Baby #5)and on my hips – the hardest places for a woman to lose weight. I was thrilled.

BUT – my curiosity was satisfied. I knew that Cinch worked. I even kept the inches and weight off for 9 months without even trying. Pretty Cool.

Stay tuned. I have already lost 5 1/2″ in just 3 weeks. My clothes are already getting looser, and I can fit into my old white jeans. I am not hungry. I don’t have cravings. I can watch my kids eat snacks and not want any! I’m now satisfied with smaller food portions. Woohoo!

God and the Muscadine Grape

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

In the backyard of my Virginian home grows a humble fruit.

It has a thick tart skin, sweet juicy pulp, annoying seeds.  It’s an old traditional fruit, that is now the center of the longevity and anti-aging scientific research.  It’s called the muscadine grape. It’s ironic that the grape is so common, and demand for it is so low, that some grocery stores in the South don’t even sell it.  Yet, inside the muscadine grape is a secret – an extra chromosome that holds tremendous potential for extending human life.

To me, the irony is that the muscadine is a humble, almost forgotten fruit, even though it is amazingly easy to grow.  As I sat in the seminar learning about the newest Shaklee Corporation product Vivix, and how it was the muscadine grape that gave the product its unique edge, I was reminded of the scripture 1 Corinthians 1:27 King James Version (KJV)

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty- the humble shall confound the wise.

It is a principal of Scripture and of the wisdom of God that in humility is found great power and influence.  So rather than some exotic berry or root from a far off land with great ritual and legend, it’s the muscadine grape, grown in thousands of backyards, and wild in the Southeast United States may be the secret of healthy long life.

God is the Author, the Giver, and the Creator of Life.  In the muscadine grape, He has exalted the humble.
